A Linguistic Minority Institution which carries a history of its centurion period of existence. Perhaps, this is the only institution of Lucknow which has been imparting education to students right from Primary classes to Higher Secondary classes in which Bengali, one of the compulsory subjects, it taught upto class 8th making the Bengali language stall alive in the hearts of the children. This institution, initially, was established in a small portion in the premises of Kali Bari, Ghasiyari Mandi, Lucknow then known as Mahakali Pathshala in the dying years of the 19th century by some public-spirited Bangalis who migrated to the then United Province.
In 1941 the school developed into a full-fledged High School from Primary and Junior High School. The handful of Bengalis who founded the institution in the fading years of the 19th century, grew in a large number at Lucknow and most of them took interest for the expansion and development of the school out of their funds and efforts, and under the guidance, the School grew into an Intermediate College in 1947. The growth in the number of students and staff resulted into the opening of Science Block in 1948 in its very premises. After 1948, the Boys’ Anglo Bengali Inter College made a landmark in the field of imparting education in vernacular English and Bengali, besides other subjects are covered in the syllabus of the Board of Intermediate Education and become one of the pioneer institutions of the city, Lucknow. The sole objective of the institution is to provide pragmatic career oriented quality education based on progressive techniques to the students. In addition, the opening of the Commerce Stream upto Intermediate marks milestone in the history of college. The college has also been granted the privilege to impart education to the girls upto class 12. Now this institution is known as a co-educational institution.
The college has produced a galaxy of luminaries in the yesteryears. Mr. H.C. Bhattacharya, the Principal of the college, who has served the institution for over two decades, was highly acclaimed in the society for his strict discipline and able administrator.
Mr. A.K. Kirti, the Principal of the college since 2001 has given new dimensions to the college for its betterment and upliftment. It is under his able leadership that the students of a college has a privilege to participate in the U.P. State Republic Day Parade. The teachers are the role model for their students as they acclaim dedication and trustworthiness towards their profession. The college is ameliorating every sphere of the students for their transcending journey.
College has completed its hundredth year in 2001. Since then several changes have been made for the betterment of the college. The college is now progressing by leaps and bounds. The results of the U.P. Board examinations of classes 10th and 12th have been improving with the course of years. We hope to establish new amplitudes and achieve new dimensions in the succeeding years.
Our newly elected President Shri Tanmay Banerjee and Secretary Shri Ashish Bhattacharya are very supportive and always contemplate about the development of this college. However the college building is almost a century old and it is in a crumpled state; a dire need for its repairs is solicited!
The college does not get aid from any resources. The Members of the Managing Committee generate resources to carry out only petty repairs, which too, amounts to thousands of rupees every year. There is an urgent requirement of almost a crore to refurbish its building and equip it with latest technology to impart modern education to the students with those their counterparts in Public Schools.
